There are a lot of people all over the world who do not celebrate Christmas. If truth be told, they will readily admit that they hate this time of year. I must be honest and say that I do really love Christmas. The lights, the decorations, the songs, the family get together and the festive food are some of the reasons why I love Christmas.
As a Christ follower it is a time when the whole world is exposed in some form or another to the beautiful Jesus who has changed my life and filled it with peace and joy. I am always happy to hear His glorious name being sung about in the malls and stores as I do my shopping. So, I have every reason to love this season.
However, I do know that there are people who find Christmas a sad day because they are all on their own. Or they are reflecting on their previous Christmas where they sat with the one they loved and that person is no more. There are all sorts of reasons for these people to hate this season. However, may I take just a few moments to encourage you.
- God knows and understands how you feel: It is a horrible feeling when you know everyone is happy and the world is going on as it did before and no one and nothing stops to feel or acknowledge your pain. I want to assure you that God knows and understands. I am not sure if that helps, but I want to assure you that my heart is feeling a little of your pain at this time.
- Bask in the peace of the season: You may not celebrate as others do, but I trust you can bask in this season and feel God's peace invade your heart at this time.
- Try and do something for someone less fortunate than yourself: I know you might be filled with sadness, but let me assure you that there are many others whose lives are in dire need. One way to help yourself, is to do something for someone less fortunate than you. Bake someone something, write them an email, but just do some small act of kindness and see how it helps you and the person you minister to.
- Don't spend the day moping or wishing it was over: Live your day with purpose. Wake up and seek to live this day like any other day. Don't focus on what you don't have, but focus on all the good things you do have. The fact that you can breathe, eat and read this blog is a reason for gratitude.
I want to say to every lonely heart out there - God loves you! He knows and feels your pain. I pray that the true meaning of Christmas will flood your heart on Christmas day. May His peace and joy be yours. Christmas is about giving. Jesus came and gave His life for all mankind. The fundamental message of Christmas is about a God who gave everything so that we might know His love and His peace. I pray that this wonderful message will fill your precious heart and life at this time.
I am and always will be,
Recklessly abandoned, ruthlessly committed and in relentless pursuit of Jesus
