WORRY FREE LIVING...IS THERE SUCH A THING?

Is there anyone on planet earth that lives a life free of anxiety?  Reveal yourself now!  Let us in on your secret; because truth be told, it is pretty difficult to live free of worry on this crazy, fast paced, ever changing planet we call earth.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the words in the song from the Lion King were true?  Do you remember them?  Well, let me remind you:

Hakuna Matata, what a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata, ain't no passing craze
It means no worries for the rest of your days
It's our problem free philosophy, Hakuna Matata

Getting up in the morning and facing the challenges of the day can fill you with anxiety.  Pressure to beat the clock, to perform, to succeed, to do, to be...to survive!  That is why I find it helpful to start my day reading God’s Word. As I do, I am reminded of my humanity: inability, weakness, and vulnerability – I am a mere mortal in need of God. 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to; “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”  Let me share three simple truths from this text that I find helpful:

·       Anxiety is a Normal Human Condition – This is not some weird, unexplained psychological condition – nope, it’s called ‘being human.”  If only a ‘problem free philosophy’ really did work for us.  But it doesn’t!  I can be at peace one moment, and the next I am fretting about my work, my kids, my grandchildren, snakes in the yard, toast burning, mice I cannot see, and a whole host of other worrisome things that encumber me.  Some of my anxieties are rational and some are totally, ridiculously, weird and irrational.  Worry I CAN do, and I do it well!

·       We do Not Have to Carry Our Anxieties – Okay, let me explain what I mean. Anxiety is one thing, but carrying it and living with it day after day is going to have a toll on you.  God knows anxiety can overwhelm us and so He gently invites us to “cast all your anxiety on Him.”  I don’t know about you, but I find that comforting and encouraging.  God knows I am human and prone to worry and so He invites me to come to Him with my anxieties and ‘cast’ them on Him.  That takes faith – to believe that he is more capable than I am and that He can take care of the situations that are causing me anxiety.

·       God Cares about You -  He doesn’t want you to worry because He knows it is not good for you.  He cares about you – your physical, spiritual and emotional well-being are important to Him.  That is why He encourages you to take all of those anxieties and throw them His way!

So my friend, if you are reading this blog and you are anxious, you are not alone! Take comfort in this text today!  May His grace sustain you through each moment of this day and may your heart be wrapped in His peace.

I am and always will be,

Reckless abandoned, ruthlessly committed and in relentless pursuit of Jesus,
