I love my life! Yes, it has been fraught with challenges, but it has been a rich, exciting life full of adventure. I have often heard it said that Christians are boring! I am not sure what people mean by ‘boring,’ because I have not found my life in any way monotonous. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Because I do not enjoy doing certain things, does not mean that my life is boring. Let me tell you how and why my life is abundant.
Firstly, I have a fantastic marriage. Paul and I made a pledge to each other 38 years ago. We committed to love each other through thick and thin. We also determined that God would be central to our relationship and so we have never treated our vows lightly; our relationship has been sacred to both of us. When Paul served in the military there were bouts where we were separated for months at a time. Those were not easy days, but even through those times our marriage and love for each other grew. Yes, even through the challenging times of marriage our resolve has strengthened. If you are struggling in your marriage I encourage you to renew your commitment. Put time and energy into your relationship and be determined to make it work. Above all else, ask God to help you in your relationship - it is worth it!
Secondly, I am besotted with my family. God puts zest into every area of our lives. I love my family and enjoy the hours we can spend together. I never laugh more than when I am with my kids and grandkids. We get pleasure out of reading together, going for walks and eating good meals together. Your family deserves your love, your time and your devotion. Most people end their lives wishing they had spent more time with their family. Invest time in your family it is worth every minute!
Thirdly, I love my work. God has put joy into my working life. I absolutely love what I do. Living for other people ignites me with energy. Invite God to be involved in your work life. When things are tough, stop and pray. God wants to be involved in every area of you life.
Fourthly, I enjoy my friendships. Great friendships can enhance your life. I enjoy my friendships and find them energizing. Invest time in your friendships. But always remember that God and family should be your priority.
Lastly, I am committed to my relationship with God. God is the center of my life. My relationship with Him is central to making all the other relationships in my life work. God is anything but boring and He has made my life complete. He promises to give us 'abundant life.' Put another way, He makes our lives rich and full.
If you are not a Christian and you think Christianity is boring I am truly sorry. You may have encountered people who have not exposed themselves to the abundant life of God. I have also met some people who call themselves Christians, and frankly, their lives are miserable. That is not the Christianity of the Bible! This one thing I can say, life with God is never boring. I am not going to be untruthful and tell you that it is, ‘a bed of roses.’ It is not! Because you are a Christian does not mean you will not face challenges and struggles. What it does mean is that God is there to see you through those times.
I encourage you to this abundant life promised in the Bible. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. My prayer is that your day will be filled with blessing and serendipity.
I am and always will be,
Recklessly abandoned, ruthlessly committed and in relentless pursuit of Jesus,
