HOW TO READ THE BIBLE FOR ALL IT'S WORTH!

The bible is a popular book and it can be found in many homes around the world.  It graces coffee tables, hotel rooms, bedside tables...somehow it just seems to make people feel better having a bible in their home. But for many people that wonderful book is not opened on a regular basis because according to some it really is extremely 'boring.'  Yes, the bible has sold more copies than any other book, but that doesn't mean that it has been read by every single buyer.

I can understand why at times people find the bible boring.  However, it is full of amazing and exciting stories.  But, more than that it is God's Word to His people and it should speak to our hearts on a daily basis.

How should we approach the bible?  How can this book become more meaningful to us as Christ followers?

1.  Be committed to reading the bible regularly:  It is ridiculous to open any book at random and start reading in the middle of the book.  Yes, you could put it down after a few paragraphs and say, "this is boring."  Why?  Because you started in the middle, you opened to a random passage and read it without any context.  The same applies to the bible.  You don't just open up a random Scripture and give up after two minutes.  You need to be committed to reading your bible on a daily basis and to read through each book of the bible.

2.  Read the bible in Context:  Don't go scooting from one chapter in one book to another chapter in another book.  Start a book and finish it so that you can understand the entire context of the book.  Of course, the Psalms and Proverbs are different.  Each chapter stands on its own.  So I like to read my bible systematically and add a daily Psalm and Proverb.  But the secret is to read one book at a time.

3.  Read the bible and allow God to speak to you:  God wrote this book for His people.  It is a book that can guide and help us through life.  I cannot tell you how many times this amazing, inspired book has encouraged me and helped me through difficult periods of my life.

The bible is the most amazing love story ever told. It is the narrative of an amazing God who loves His creation.   The bible has deeply impacted my life and I could not live without it.  Saying the bible is boring or irrelevant is as silly as saying the ocean is dry or birds can't fly.

I challenge you to start reading the bible and see how it changes your life.

I am and always will be,

recklessly abandoned, ruthlessly committed and in relentless pursuit of Jesus,
