How do I Know if it is God's Will?

I know there are times in my life when I have heard God speaking clearly to my heart.  I have also learned that it can be dangerous to use the words 'God told me' even if I am convinced that God has spoken to my heart.  To use those words "God told me" can sometimes be very manipulative.  When someone says to you: "God spoke to me" the conversation is over.  How can you ever argue with God?   Some people use that phrase because they don't want you to argue with them or question their motives.  I know of people who have said:  "God told me" and I cannot tell you how many times things have gone wrong for them or worse God has changed His mind. I don't mean that God has literally changed His mind, but when things don't work out for them as they so boldly proclaimed they would,  itappears that God has changed His mind.

So how do we find God's will for our lives or for a particular situation?

Firstly,  spend some time in prayer and quiet reflection. Philippians 4:6 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Secondly,  submit everything you feel to the Word of God.  Here are a few Scriptures that I find helpful when considering God's will for my life or a situation:

Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Micah 6:8 'He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Thirdly, walk in confidence.  I do not think God's will is complicated.  If we submit to those verses above and our lives are devoted to God His leading and guidance will be clear.  We don't have to try and manipulate other people by saying: 'God told me' we can walk confidently in His will.

And so live your life submitted to God and you will be amazed at the adventure that is ahead of you.  Life becomes very exciting when you are fully submitted to God.  Don't complicate God's will for your life.  Live with excitement and anticipation about each new day.

I am and always will be,

recklessly abandoned, ruthlessly committed and in relentless pursuit of Jesus,

Carol
